2008 Amatour Hawaii Battle at Keneohe Klipper- Kaneohe Klipper Golf Course, August 16 & 17.

8.17.2008-- Mark Chun sealed it by a shot over Michael Trevino today in the Battle at Klipper. Chun carded rounds of 71 & 77 for a tournament total of 4-over par 148 while Trevino posted rounds of 74 & 75-- 5-over par 149. Layne Morita was 3rd with a score of 6-over par 150. 2008 Eddie Hogan Cup- Riverside Golf and Country Club in Portland, Oregon, August 16 & 17.

8.17.2008-- The Hawaii Team of Bou-An Fujieki, Justin Keiley, Brett Komoto and Corey Kozuma finished in a tie for 6th place at the 40th Annual Eddie Hogan Cup Team Matches at the Riverside Golf and Country Club in Portland, Oregon on August 16 & 17. Justin Keiley finished in 3rd place individually with scores of 73-68>141.

2008 OCC Men's & Senior Men's Invitational- Oahu Country Club, August 21 - 23. Defending Champion Alex Ching, Sr. Champion George Yamamoto.

8.17.2008-- The 45th Annual Oahu Country Club Men's Invitational begins at 6:45AM on Thursday, August 21st.  This years event features 55 players in the Open Division and 40 players in the Senior Division (55 years & over). The field of 95 players will be competing for the individual championship over the course of 54-holes. The field will be cut to the low 30 players & ties after 36-holes. The Senior Division will be contested over the first 36-holes.

Alex Ching will be defending his championship. Last year, Alex was eleven under par for the three day event with rounds of 64-67-71 for a 202 total. Alex just missed Parker McLachlin’s tournament record of 201 by a single shot. Lorens Chan came in second place with a six under par score of 207.  Alex will be looking to repeat as champion and become the third player ever to win the Manoa Cup & Men’s Invitational in the same calendar year, (Brandan Kop 1998 & Kalua Makalena 1981). Included in this years Open Division field are Brandan Kop past champion (1998) & the four time Manoa Cup Champion, Jonathan Ota 2004 Champion & the 2006 Manoa Cup Champion, Travis Toyama the two time Manoa Cup Champion (2002 & 2005) and Ryan Perez 2004 Manoa Cup Champion. Other contenders include David Fink, Mathew Ma & Sean Maekawa.

George Yamamoto will be defending his Senior Championship. Last year George had a nine over par total of 151 to capture the 55+ Senior Division for the fourth time. Included in this years Senior Division are Wendell Kop a past champion in 1986 & 1989, Mervin Matsumoto a past champion in 2003, Bob McGarry, George Yamamoto, Phil Anamizu & Tom Goodbody.

8.15.2008-- Cyd Okino captured the 2008 HSWGA Amateur Match-Play Championship today over Nicole Sakamoto by a score of 5 & 3.

Kevin Hayashi Seals Win on 20th Hole!

ALOHA SECTION PGA TURTLE BAY GOLF MATCH PLAY CHAMPIONSHIP- The Arnold Palmer Course - Turtle Bay Resort, August 11 - 13, 2008.

8.13.2008-- Kevin Hayashi of Mauna Kea Resort defeated Kevin Carll of Turtle Bay Golf in 20 holes.  Hayashi earned his berth into the finals with a bye in the 1st round, defeating Tad Fujimaki 6-4 in the 2nd round, Andrew Feldmann 4-3 in the quarterfinals and John Hearn 1-up in the semifinals.  Carll earned his spot in the finals with a bye in the 1st round, then defeating Kellan Anderson 6-5 in the 2nd round, John Lynch 6-5 in the quarterfinals, and Ron Castillo Jr. 1-up in the semifinals.  In the finals, Hayashi birdied holes #2 and #3 and parred #5 and #6 to go 4-up.  Carll then parred #7,  #8, #10, #11, and eagled #12 to go 1-up.  Hayashi then turned up the heat with birdies on #14 and #16 to go 1-up.  Carll rebounded with a par at #17 to make the match all square.  The match was all square after regulation.  Hayashi parred the second extra hole giving him the 1-up win through 20 holes. Lance Taketa of Hilo Municipal Golf Course defeated Bill Hunt of the Golf Academy of Hawaii 3-1 to win the Senior Division Match Play held on August 12th.  Taketa played the first three holes 1-under par and jumped out to a quick 3-up lead.  Hunt responded by playing holes #4, #5, and #6 1-under par to put the match back to all square.  Taketa made a birdie at #8 to go 1-up, but Hunt birdied #9 to keep the match all square through nine holes.  Taketa went par, birdie, par on #10, #11, and #12 to go 3-up.  Hunt birdied #14 and parred #15 to remain only 1-dn.  However, Taketa went par and then birdie on #16 and #17 to close the match at 3-1.

The Match Play Championship is the second major championship of the 2008 season.  The Turtle Bay Golf Match Play Championship featured thirty-one island professionals in matches played as follows:

This year, everyone played Match Play.  The field was seeded based on Player of the Year / Senior Player of the Year point standings as of August 10th.  Defending champions were automatically seeded #1.  There was also a consolation round held on the George Fazio Course.  Bradley Bowen of Kahili Golf Course and Kellan Anderson of Turtle Bay Golf claimed low pro honors by shooting a 72.
